Councillor Alan Gordon

Cllr Alan Gordon
It is with the deepest regret that we record the passing of our colleague and friend Alan Gordon.   He died peacefully at home on 9 July 2021 after battling cancer.
For the last few years Alan has been a conscientious and courteous Councillor who placed his considerable experience and talents at the disposal of the Council.  He actively supported the redevelopment of the Combe Way Play area and took a particular interest in the provision of resources and facilities for the younger members of our community.  He brought a knowledge of engineering and the placing of large contracts and was able to help and advise the Council when considering matters in our meetings.
Even when his voice was failing earlier this year he still attended the on-line zoom meetings and actively participated by studying all the background papers prior to the meeting and by use of hand gestures during the meeting.  His dry sense of humour never failed him and we will miss his participation in our discussions and deliberations in the future.
With his background in the National Health Service he was also able to represent the Council in the many consultations and surveys that we receive concerning the provision of healthcare facilities both in the village and the local area including the hospital provision in Dorchester.  There will be a tribute and the holding of a minutes silence at the commencement of the next full Council meeting.
To his wife and family the Council extends its deepest sympathy.
